West Virginia Mountain Style Split Rail/Locust Post & Hemlock Rails

Our West Virginia Mountain Split rail consists of 11 foot hemlock rails and locust posts.

We offer 2" x 2" wrap joint wire and staples for your split rail fence. We also make split rail gates.

Helpful Hints For Installing Your Own Split Rail Fence

Stay within 3 to 4 inches inside your property line.
Use string and stakes for laying out fence line.
You may find it easier to build a few sections at a time.
Lay a single row of rails on the ground near (but not on) the fence line.
Overlap the rails 5 to 6 inches and that is where you dig your post holes. Since the length of the rails may vary, match up rails within a section.
To dig your holes, use a 9 inch auger with a one- or two-man machine, which you can rent from dealers.
For smaller jobs, use manual posthole diggers.
Put the post in the ground and slide the rails through so you have maybe three to five sections sighted in. When you start to tamp the dirt back around the post, it is important to get the bottom tight. Add a little dirt and tamp well. Continue adding and tamping. If you do not get the bottom tamped in good, the post will not get tight
